Domatesin önemli zararlılarından biridir , domates bitkisinin tüm kısımlarıyla beslenen larvası çok büyük zararlara sebep olabilmektedir. Larva yapraklarda büyük galeriler açar, sap içini, tomurcukları, yeşil ve olgun meyveleri oyar ve hasadı %80-100 oranlarında olumsuz etkileyebilir. Zararlının esas konukçusu domates olup aynı zamanda patates, patlıcan, biber ve solanacea türünden bitkilere de zarar verir.
Sera veya tarla koşullarında yetiştirilen domateslerde zarar düzeyi çok yüksektir. Toprak üstü kısımlarına çok büyük zarar verirler.Ayrıca meyve olum döneminde , meyve içinde galeriler açarak , meyvenin çürümesine neden olurlar.
Yapılan araştırmalarda, bilinen kimyasal insektisitlerin bu zararlı üzerinde etkisinin yeterli düzeyde olmadığını ve bu kimyasallara karşı direnç kazandığı tespit edilmiştir.Ayrıca galeriler açarak meyve içine girmiş zararlıya kontak etkili ilaçlar ulaşamamaktadır.Bu tip ilaç kalıntıları ihracatı büyük oranda sekteye uğrattığı da bilinmektedir.
Bu zararlı kimyasallara alternatif kitlesel tuzaklama(mücadeleme amaçlı) ve monitor (populasyon tespiti) amaçlı kullanılan feromon tuzaklar geliştirilmiştir. Özellikle organik üretim yapan firmaların büyük rahatlıkla kullandığı çevrede ve bitkide zararlı kalıntı bırakmayan modern bir zararlı mücadele yöntemidir.
Monitor amaçlı ,sera koşullarında hektara 2-3 adet feromon tuzağı ,tarla koşullarında hektara 10-20 adet tuzak kullanmak uygundur.
Seralarda mücadele amaçlı kullanılacak ise hektara 20-40 adet tuzak gelecek şekilde ,tarlada kullanılacaksa hektara 40-60 adet tuzak kullanılır.Zararlıların ergin döneminden bir hafta önce tuzakları asmak çok yararlı olur.Tuzak içindeki feromonlar 10-12 haftada bir değiştirilmelidir
